I stopped by the local GC and they had 2 of these on the rack. I've wanted one of these for a while, especially once they released stealth black. I just so happened to have cash and a gift card and walked out with this and a pack of new strings for $700.

I was going to get a used US Sub from a TB classified but after playing a new classic Ray I couldn't do the slab top. And I had been looking at the Fender FSR ash Jazz for a while, but I always wanted a Sting Ray. The fit and finish on this is great and it sounds awesome. Really happy with my first brand new bass in over 15 years.

El Raro and exidor like this.
  2. Congrats on your new purchase :)

Looks really nice. I had the black SBMM Ray 34 when they first came out. Excellent basses.

Nice! I recently played a SBMM Ray34CA and fell in love with it! AFAIK, the only differences between the two are the body contours and the EQ (the CA is 2 band).

Great basses and good value. Not much different than a US Stingray IMO.

Buying a new bass is always cool too!

    Congrats!

I had originally wanted a CA but I really love the black on flat black of this one. I'm not really sure what the 2 band vs 3 band EQ sounds like, never got to play one side by side.
Plus I really don't think the slab body would have worked for me. I play with a pick a lot and that would have been uncomfortable.

Sadly I didn't get to play much last night. Have a wife with a sinus infection. Hopefully I can crank my 400RB and SVT 810 tomorrow. I played it at the store through a 700RB and SVT so I know it will sound good.

The only difference is a mid control, so other than that they should sound similar.

Yeah, the slab body just doesn't work for some people... but I found it very comfortable. The necks on those basses are great too!

I love the neck. I've always played basses with 1.5" nuts but I find this one is easier to play. It's just under 1.70" and I really like it. Got to crank it yesterday and it sounds awesome. Still trying to figure out the best EQ settings.

Played it with my drummer buddy and I love this bass. The neck is sublime. I really like the larger nut width, makes my fat fingers happy.:hyper:
