Here is my latest and it's a keeper, only 9 lb. I've never seen an SR5 so light! What is the lightest Sting Ray 5 any of you TB'ers have seen?
Well it's been known to happen. My former Stingray 5 was also very light. Before purchasing I had often heard about the weight of these but my current bass at the time was very heavy so I assumed I could deal with it. I remember picking it up for the first time I was surprised how light it was. Very nice bass by the way, love the grain.
The weight was a very pleasant surprise to me as every other Music Man I've owned (pre and post-EB) was over 10 or 11 lb. I turned this into a New Bass Day thread, added more pics in the first post. Just got a tortoiseshell pickguard for it too. Another thing I'm loving about this bass is the tonal variations offered with the 5 way switch. Just put Thomastik Jazz Flats on, checking out that vibe now... Like it although I'm usually a rounds player and like to slap. The TI's sound pretty good slapped... a little mellower but still tasty. Adding treble livens em up too.
Beautiful. I love tort, but on natural, I prefer black pg's. Either way, that's one fine looking, and i'm sure, playing instrument you've got there. Congrats!!!! Great pics too! One of these days, i'm going to have to learn how to take a decent pic.
Very pretty bass you have there. Maybe someday, when I can afford to spend two mortgage payments on a bass...
Took the TI flats off and strung her with SS Dunlop 40's. Just couldnt justify flats on a Sting Ray, lol
SR5s shipped as from 12 March 2008 have switched from Ceramic pickups to Alnico (Initially all SR5's had been Alnico but changed to Ceramic circa 1992) One of my favorite things about this bass are those two huge Alnico pickups!
