    Hi

    Here's my new bass!

    The spec is

    Wenge body
    spalted maple top
    Quarter sawn maple neck
    macassar ebony board
    all sadowsky electronics
    all hipshot hardware

    AlpherBass2.

    AlpherBass1.

    SAM_0189.

Its the first bass that I've made and i already can't wait to start the next build!

Let me know what you think and if you like it please check out my company on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/alpherinstruments

we're a very small custom shop offering hand built instruments to the very highest standards

    :)

  2. very classy, elegant and personal!!! It's not so common, specially for a "first time". Dug the rod adjustment "a la" Sting Ray.

You need now to characterise the headstock with your own logo.

I can tell you'll have a long list of customers!!!! Congratulations.

    ;) V.

P.S.: since your neck seems out of the usual standard Fender blueprint, you should offer at least 21 frets!!! (MVHO)

    Thanks for the kind words

The headstock is going through a massive re design for the next build, this is only a prototype and it didn't quite turn out the way we liked.

  4. why? You can't post that and NOT tell it all!!!!

    haha :)

well we feel the headstock design needs a few tweaks to make it perfect and we may go for the 4 in line style :)

I'm digging the body shape...sort of a single-cut jazz bass thing going on there. Keep up the good work!

Yeah that is hot. I agree the headstock is not it's best feature, not by a long way. Seriously takes away from an otherwise smoking look. Love the spalted, and those big friendly metal knobs were a great choice!

:) we agree and this is the whole point of prototyping.

    Thanks for your feedback :)

  12. man, I agree that the 3+1 is not a common choice; but just for this it results in a more original choice vs. the thousands of 4 in line clones! I would keep it. In addition it gives the advantage of a shorter overall length and it helps in fighting the diving, that with an upper pin placed at 14 fret might become an issue with a longer headstock...

Think twice, before dropping it... maybe find a prettier shape (and think about the 21 frets, too!); take a look at this italian indipendent small luthier that uses the 3+1 for his four strings:

Those look startlingly similar to SX headstocks lol. They look better on his, I think because that small cut and the not-overly-glossy finish keep it classy
