Just took shipment of a new Ibanez SR500. Playing normally, every fret past the point where the neck meets the body is buzzing. Could this be remedied by slightly raising the saddles at the bridge? Intonation is and action are dead on, so I don't want to perturb the factory setup too much. Or -- is this indicative of a larger problem? Thanks for any advice.

  2. Check to see if you have too much relief in the neck first. If your not sure how to do that go to youtube and check some videos. They explain how to do it. Check the owners manual for your bass and see what info they have first.

According to my gauges the relief is in spec (0.4 mm at the 8th fret, spec is 0.3 - 0.5 mm).

  4. Is it a bolt on neck? If so maybe shimming a bit, otherwise I don't really know. Hopefully someone will pop on here with more info.

    Factory spec is meaningless.

Your bass has unacceptable buzz. It needs to be properly set up. Throw away the gauges and adjust it until it sounds and feels right.

  6. I agree with @lz4005 every bass is different and needs individual attention.

    More info?

Without touching the strings, how high are the strings above the 12th fret?

When fretting at the 3rd fret, how high are the strings above the 1st fret?

It sounds like the last fret is slightly high. The frets on the high end of the fingerboard need a light leveling. Changing the relief or shimming won't affect that at all. Raising the action may make it go away, but it shouldn't be buzzing like that at the factory spec action height.
