Amidst all the hoopla over CrawlingEye getting his new bass, I also received a package via FedEx today. In the box was a Carvin LB75P, which was, if acceptable, my "backup" bass, or experimental bass in light of the fact that my main bass is a Stingray 5 purchased a little over a month ago from (here comes a shameless plug) BassCentral. You'll see from the pictures that the original owner did a nice job of picking the woods. Surprisingly, the bass does not weigh more than my Stingray because of the ash body and maple neck. The top is figured walnut. This is one of Carvin's P Series basses, and as mentioned here on TB before, it is wired for sound. I am still playing with it, but it looks like it will at least be my "lazy man's" fretless, since with the trebles dialed down, the piezo's dialed up and the pickups shaded to the Jazz, a nice "fretless"sound ensues. So there you have it, another "got a new bass" post, a shameless plug, and an initial take on the guitar. Oh yes, Brad Johnson will be proud. I got a real deal.

That's a really nice piece of walnut, rick. Somebody at Carvin took the time to make sure the piece was cut so the figured "ripples" away from the center of the bass.

I didn't know Carvin would make an entire top to cover up the neck-through. I wish my quilted top was solid all the way across.

Hopefully the piezo helps out that sad HB. I don't have the piezo and I can't bear to use the HB soloed or dominant over the J99.

I'm a gold hardware fan, too.

I've been looking at that, in the Carvin ad of my back issue Bass Player magazine. It really looks like a sweet bass. I hope you're happy with your hoopla, I'm very happy with mine. ;) :D

Congrats on a very nice looking bass. Not bad for a "backup" bass!:D

Congratulations on your newest acquisition! Very nice walnut top - a fretless and a piezo pickup is a lethal combination - mixed with a bit of magnetics, a nice half-acoustic half-mwah sound ensues... Enjoy! :)

Very nice, rickeyrn! It's not often that you see a piece of walnut flamed as nicely as that.
