    My name is Chris and I have been playing bass for almost 2 years. The bass that I have right now is a Hartke starterpack bass. I know that my bass is not the most technlogical. I want to get a better bass between $300 & $500. I like slim basses with narrow necks and preferrally a 4string. Can you please help me?

    What style of music? That could decide it all...however Bass Guitar mag just put out something with ten sweet four stringers under $500:

    * BC Rich Platinum Warlock @ $430
    * Ibanez SRX500 @ $480
    * Fender Standard Jazz @ $420
    * ESP F-104 @ $280
    * Peavy Grind 4 BXP NTB @ $370
    * Spector Performer 4 @ $350
    * Warwick RockBass Corvette Classic @ $500
    * Washburn T-24 Taurus @ $420
    * Yamaha BB604 @ $450
    * MTD Kingston @ $480

    I can't tell you anymore without knowing your type of style, desired sound, etc. But there's a start.

    What type of music do you play and the bass that I would pick is a SR300DX. :bassist:

    I would check into Peavey, Carvin, and the Ibanez stuff. All three of these companies offer big bang for the buck. Everyone seems to have good things to say about Yamaha also.

    What's that MIM Fender P-J with the J neck? A P-bass Special, or something like that?
