Alright, I've been playing for some months now, almost completely self taught, and ive been beginning to think about my next bass.
I currently have a Cort Action 4, which is nice, but im really starting to get into funk and i dont think this is the bass for that.
Any recommendations for a good slap and pop bass that can also carry a fat and melodic tune?

    Valentis rock, too.

LOL. In all seriousness, tell us your budget, and we can give you a much better answer.

Try and find an Ibanez Roadstar II bass (from the 80s). Check on eBay. In the $200 - $275 range.

There are good basses in every price range. It depends on what you mean by a "real" bass. For funk, getting your hands on a decent Fender is going to be a real safe bet, if you're just asking for one suggestion. SX does it credibly and cheaper and Sadowsky et al does it better for more.
