long time fender guy here... fretted and toothless. Also a sound company guy. I get to hear a variety of things through the outdoor season.

Pondering URB/ EUB. I intend to focus my UR/EU/B playing on Blues, newgrass, rockabilly. The prog surf and funk stuff I do will be on my P Bass...

URB generally sounds awesome in a small space. Larger spaces I tend to see a lot of NS or Eminence.

I’m more focused on higher volume stages - not screaming loud but not lounge... guitars through a Deluxe Reverb and the PA doing the heavy lifting.

Golihur has the ED package which is sure reasonable. used Eminence and NS basses seem to be within reach.

and just to provoke... I have a Barker Brio that was fretted. I replaced the neck with a Squire J fretless and the bridge with a Graphtech ghost piezo. Fun but I’d like to scale up... so to speak...

  2. Great, the double bass will not leave you indifferent!

Fine! I read a lot about Barker's bass, although I didn't have the pleasure of playing them.
But (for me) these words on the side of the DB sound like the words “I play through the octaver on my Stratocaster, I use the bass combo etc. and I’d like to scale up...” on the side of the BG.

Well ergonomically Barker fits in with Zeta, Azola DJ other 34” scale stick basses. They are what they are. Time to move on though...

I have an NS NXT bass and it does everything I want it to. I also love the eminence, and would probably buy one if it weren't quite so expensive. In my experience the NS is easier for a novice to play, set it up really low action. The eminence is more like a real upright, and most people set them up like one, which I find to be a lot of work.
I play upright on about a dozen songs a night.

My wife's Zeta (a beautiful bass, no longer made) has a scale virtually identical to a 3/4 bass. Not in front of me at the moment, but it's got to be over 40".
