What is the point of getting a better bridge than a stock one? How can a bridge get better than it already is? Thanks.

Change tone ever so slightly, add more sustain, or simply replace something that keeps moving with something more solid.

Because it's a better (or maybe the better term is different) bridge and will therefore sound or act "different" (if that is "better" or not is for you to decide).

There are a LOT of different types of bridges out there and everyone has an opinion and things they like/dislike about the various models. I for one very much dislike the bent Fender type bridges on the most basic level, LOOKS, IMO they just look cheap and flimsly, but with the history of Fender basses you certainly can't say that they don't do their job.
