new build Fenderbird 5 string

    If I could only own 36 basses what would they be?
    I am building a new Fenderbird 5 string bass

    I am this far along today ... I love Fenderbirds and I have wanted to do a slanted pickup bass for a while. These pickups will be slanted about 20 degrees and they will be in the Rickenbacker positions

    It may end up with a 4 band preamp

    This looks very cool. Just saying but I think you also need a 4003s/5, likely a walnut version :thumbsup:.

    I think that wood looks nice enough to leave alone.
    Can you make a veneer work with the raised center section?

    Good idea, Ric5. I looked at skins a few years ago and never saw any as cool as the ones at your link.

    I routed out the neck pocket a little more and rounded the edges a little more.

    I am thinking the pickguard will be exotic wood or tort ... and I am thinking the finish will be tru oil
