    What body wood should i use with a koa top?

    Whatever wood is available to you, suits your fancy, and doesn't give you hives.

    Aesthetically speaking I think koa pairs well with woods like:
    maple
    mahogany/sapele
    walnut
    wenge


    Koa has the appearance of caramel to me, which I think pairs well with colours similar to chocolate or vanilla.

    I've used mahagony and alder with Koa tops on the last two basses I built. Same pickups/electronics .

    While I love mahagony bodies , in this instance subjectively the half dozen folks that have heard both back to back like the alder one better. I stained the alder to match the color of the Koa
