Hey, I believe this is my first post here. Anyways, I just got a Carvin bass and am looking to replace my Hartke HA3500 head and 215XL cab. I also own an Ibanez Soundgear 4 string fretted bass. I really like it and have no intention on going boutique to replace it. Here is what I'm looking for. I'd like an amp that can give a killer scooped funky slap sound with the Ibanez, and then a midrangey slick latin jazz fusion sound for the Carvin (but also with the Ibanez). I play all kinds of styles, but I'd like something that can do both Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey. I was looking at the Eden 410XLT cab. What do you guys think of it? What about a head? I've tried most of the lower level stuff like gallien krueger, swr, ampeg, fender, etc. I'm thinking more along the lines of eden, aguilar, genz benz, etc. Thanks!
Have you considered the Carvin B1500? IMO it's a modern classic, and many of us feel it can easily hang with those names you mentioned in terms of tone and build quality. The fact that you play a Carvin bass and an Ibanez Soundgear means that you aren't blinded by big names and that you know if something sounds good, it is good. Take a look at what people here say about the B1500. (Many also like the BX1200.) There are many fine amps, of course, and it would be hard for us to say what's right for you; only you can do that. But this would be a good one to at least put on your list for consideration.
You know, the newish Mesa M6 or M9 Carbines have a knob that changes the character of the mid-range. Great amps, and with the twist of a single knob you go from scooped to mid boosted. Just a thought. A pair of 2x12's would look and sound great with either of these heads.
+1 on the B1500. It's a high end amp with lots of power at a low price. You should be able to EQ in a scooped tone with just about any amp. The Eden customer service would worry me a little for a relatively expensive amp. The Genz Benz ShuttleMax can get the closest to the Eden tone IMO, and has top notch customer service. I wouldn't think the Aguilar would do the modern, fusion sounds as well as some of the other amps out there but I haven't played an Aguilar amp either. The new Euphonic Audio iAMP Pros look pretty nice too, they may be worth looking into.
I am with these guys, try the B1500. I have one and it kills, i also have a Suttlemax12.0 but the jury is still out, not enought time to play with it yet
