Today is the first day of Arizona's new cigarette tax.
(an additional 80 cents a pack)

I was wondering if any other states passes similar tax hikes
this past November, and just were this new revenue will be going.

How much are you paying for cigs?

Here in Washington State we're up to $6.00 a pack. I think that a LOT of that is taxes.

i think its around $4.50 in NY... not sure though, because i don't smoke

i think its the most ridiculous thing ever though... they make all sorts of money on cigarette taxes because people are so addicted that they're forced to buy them, no matter how much they cost.

A carton of Winston cost me an extra $8.00 today With this new tax. ($42.25)
So I'm paying $4.25 per pack in Arizona.

Whats that old saying: I don't actually smoke, I'm just the sucker...:eyebrow:
  6. thats a bunch of crap. aint no need to do that. what does it take for we the people to stand up and say no more we aint gonna take it? i do not smoke but i can see the light. thats sucks for smokers. im sorry to hear that.

I think they should use this tax money for paying hospital bills
for poor people that have smoking related illnesses.
  10. no, for everday people who cant afford health care or medications, such as the elderly.

The world is ushering the use of tabacco into the annals of antiquity. It's more than time.

It's just a money grab - the government does not care about you or anyone else. If they did, they would outlaw cigarettes altogether. They just want the money. It does not go toward anything remotely helpful to anyone - that's the rub. For the record, I do not smoke, never have, never will, and I hate the things. But come on, these taxes that are getting passed are horrible ploys to get the fat cats fatter.

You could try, but you'd probably just run out of breath like half way there and need to take a seat and have a smoke. :meh:
  15. I pay usually about 9 or 10 per pack of 25 here, Canadian that is.

For reds I see them advirtised at $3.75 at liquor stores and gas stations. My cloves are usually around $5.50 to $6.25 though.

Of course that only applies somewhere there's a health care system, like the UK. Ploughing tax from tobacco into healthcare makes sense and few could argue with it; ploughing it into Fine Arts is something of a logical disconnect, as far as I can tell.

Yeah, In Cleveland, OH we banned cigarettes from all public places (and even some private ones). and then passed a .30 cent tax to pay for an Art/music education program!

hahah kick em in the groin, then punch em in the gut for good measure!!!!!!
  19. A 20 pack of cigarettes is usually about £5 over here, and thats the usual price (can be more or less depending on brand), thats almost $10 a pack, all the time here.

    Im glad i dont smoke

Nobody's forcing anyone to buy cigarettes. I quit. Others have quit. If someone continues to smoke, its a personal choice. They should have to pay for it.
