New Whammy. ATTN DIGITECHREP! I know you guys want it. I want it too. Petition for dropping the 2nd -> 3rd up setting in favor of the 5th up -> Octave up. Let's make it happen.
I'm sure someone has some facts to contribute as far as Whammy iterations and suitability for bass guitars' frequency range, but I've used a WH4 and XP100 on bass, and never noticed or minded any problems. Other than the inherent love/hate glitchiness of the Whammy.
Or get a HOG and you have range from -3 to +5 oct of you include the octave bend function....plus it's polyphonic and sounds awesome with fuzz before it
Actually, for all the million things the HOG can do, it can't do the 5th/Oct harmony thing that the Bass Whammy did. That would require being able to bend up from a fifth to an octave. The HOG can only do octave bends or full-step bends.
Ahh but yes it can! Set it to oct bend, set only original slider, use your exp's side knob and dial in a 5th by ear/tuner...now you can do 5th>+1 oct....and even use the dry signal to blend that in if need be.... Or use an Expressionator to set the low limit at +5th from the original (but synthesized note) They only it can't do is massive dive bombs as it can only go down 1 oct with the octave bend reverse...but besides that it can do all the whammy can plus a BAZILLION things more...I think it made me pizza once!
Well, yeah, ok. Not every exp pedal has a sweep adjustment knob And not everyone has an expressionator I just meant that the HOG itself can't do it
I don't know about you, but when my HOG made me pizza, it tasted awful. It should really stick to harmonies.
With an expression pedal you can make the pitch shift bend starting from a fifth up and moving to an octave up on the M5. EDIT::: You can make it bend from anywhere -2 octaves to +2 octaves, to any place in that same range.
Why get a Whammy when other pedals can do more things and do them better? (the aforementioned Line 6 M Series, and most especially the Eventide Pitchfactor)
I can't speak to everyone else, but I have an XP-100 Whammy, and I use 3 different whammy modes + the volume pedal mode during any particular gig, and I got it for around 100 bucks. The Eventide costs 5 times that much, and would take up more space when you add in an expression pedal. I got a chance to play around with my guitarist's M13 when he had one, and I honestly did not like most of the modulation or dirt effects. The delays and reverbs were fine, but I would probably only use those and the Pitch Bend, and they still cost a fortune, and would still need an external exp pedal. So the XP-100 is the most efficient solution for me.
that's what I use to use before moving on to the HOG... (back to the OP) it looks very intuitive, and if they add that 5th/+1 setting it would make A LOT more sense than the 2nd/3rd setting esp on bass.
