i've heard many great things about Essex basses. I've also heard that Fender basses are good too. Now if u had to decide between the two, which would u go with? A new Essex precision bass for $99 or a used Fender for $230?

It would be a used MIM Fender, either Precision or Jazz. I would not be able to compare them up close because i plan on ordering them. I've played fenders, they seem pretty good. But i haven't seen an Essex basses. I've just heard good things about them on here.

For $99 Id be tempted to try an Essex.

Go for the essex they are a lot cheaper and almost the same i own a jazz essex and it is at least as good as an MIM Fender u could also upgrade the pickup to a fender custom shop or seymore duncan and still be under 230 so i would go for the essex
