I just saw a Fender Bass in the new musician's friend, called a American Delux Zone Bass. I've seen a fender with the funky 16 magnet humbucker before, but this one supposedly has an 18volt active preamp, it also has lots of wood choices, and a P light style body. Is this new, or did I just not see it when it came out? I'm not a Fender Man, but it looks pretty cool for a fender.
oops, I got the pictures mixed up I just described the new P bass, man all these new fenders look sweet, I never really liked the old ones. The zone bass has two humbuckers, it still looks new. It has all the stuff above except the 16 magnet thing.
Yep, it was just recently released. Some have speculated that this is what Fender is putting up against active basses like the L2000.
It is pretty new. Fender is trying to diversify by making some basses with more exotic woods and different electronics to reach different areas of the bass market. I think they look pretty good, but I haven't played one yet. jtbp
my bass teacher got a 5 string deluxe p-bass (the one with the humbucker and p setup) but dumped the 'bucker and got seymore duncan to custom make him a humbucker with a music man type on botton and a j bass pick up on top. Once he was done with that, he slanted the modified hb like on the strats. he then switched the p pup around so that it went ---__ instead of __--- . Then, he added a couple of new controls ( cant remember what kind) and added a one of those pickup switches. I played it the other day, and man, I can get so many sounds out of it. even though the bass cost him like 2500, it was worth it. he can get just about all of the fender tones out of it, and is close to having it sound like a music man, but doesnt have it quite yet, but close. I would tell you about his fretless jpj combo with about a million different controls, but i dont want to have diahreah of the fingers. well, kinda off subject, but i thought that it was kind of interesting Slick519
