New Fender Jazz 24

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by James Buhler, Jul 29, 2005.

  1. Just picked up a Jazz 24 today. :) I think this bass is great! It feels and plays like a dream. Sounds excellent and has a massive number of tone options with the electronics. I'll be messin around with the sounds for a while! The only thing that I'm not plussed about is the cheap little, what looks to be extremely breakable "slap" switch. What's up with that? Oh well, don't have to use it anyway.

Got a great deal too. Store price was $619 US and I got $260 US for my 2003 MIM Jazz in trade! I just don't know how they can do it. Hipshot tuners, super heavy duty bridge with string through or top load options, active Seymour Duncan Bassline pups and a beautiful maple quilt finish for this price?

There is also something odd that I should mention. Maybe someone can explain this to me. The bass is apparently only offered in a Sunburst Tobacco or Sunburst Cherry finish. Mine has a gorgeous Amber Quilt finish. What's up with that? When I saw it I had to have it for the finish alone. :hyper: Did Fender pre-release a few "test" basses with different finishes than the current "stock" finishes? The guy at the music store didn't have a clue. Anyone have any thoughts?

Isn't she sweet? A lot lighter than a regular Jazz too!

I love that toggle switch. I use mine as a quick EQ setting to scoop out the mids when I use an envelope filter.

If Fender releases a P or P/J version I'm going to have to buy that too!

Can you post pics of your finish?
  7. I was surprised to find that the neck is pretty much the same as the Standard MIM Jazz. It might feel a bit less chunky (thinner from the top of the fretboard to the back of the neck) past the 12th fret but that might just be my imagination. All in all it has a very good, familiar feeling. :D

    Wow! It looks.... alive!

Maybe it's a limited run finish for one of their distributors?

Oh and you can remove the inspector's sticker now :p

if it had gold hardware it would look almost just like the usa fender fmt jazz!!! i would like gold hardware!but thats just me!
a gold Gotoh bridge would look super!!! :bassist:
  14. I'm so thankful that there isn't a Five String Maple Board version.
  15. I think that the thread-starter's bass is a Cherry Sunburst.

I bought a Tobacco Sunburst Friday & played a 4 -set gig Saturday with it; we are afterpartying as I type; that should tell you how enthused I am about this instrument. Mine shall be a mainstay. The sound was incredible, with the toggle switch letting me take my solo with ease, just like My FNA Jazzman.

The key to the price is MIK. I would love to get an American version with graphite bars in the neck for about a grand. A bookmatched top would also be worth some extra dough.

It's loooooong. This bass barely fits some all-purpose cases, and does not fit some standard J-bass cases. I used a Godin gig bag to take it to & from the gig.

Can't wait to stick a Hipshot Extender on it, even tho' I have no need for one in my current situation. Love the Ultralite tuners.

Fender has come up with a winner here. An American version with graphite bars would be an ultimate J-bass. This one just might be the best J bass I have ever played.

I was in GC about a week ago and was surprised to see one there. I thought they'd just been introduced at NAMM.

Didn't plug it in, but it felt good and played well, and the workmanship looked good too. Struck me as a good deal for the money.

To bad they don't have a 5 (yet). Now that I've gone 5, there's no going back.
  18. I hope you are as happy with yours as I am with mine! :bassist: Good luck with the wait! I know what the waiting pain is like having ordered several guitars and basses in the last couple of years. It just seems to take so long for things to ship here to the 'great white north'.:crying:

So is it a photo finish or real quilt? Not that it really matters if you like it (and it is a beautiful bass), but for $600+/-, I'm wondering if it's the real thing.
Fender has been known to offer photo finishes in the past, refer to the infamous "Hamburglar" bass if you doubt it.
