I saw on the Fender site that the new Fender RB5's have certain features that aren't mentioned on Harmony Central user reviews, nor are they mentioned on reviews here. Are the new RB5's different than the older ones?

1: the new ones have an assymetrical neck. Did the old ones have this?

2: The old push pull tone pot was said to drop the output of the neck pu, but on the newer ones the push pull is a mid boost. (actually, I can't remember if it's a mid boost or a mid cut, but it had something to do with the mids)

I'm just wondering if I should buy new or save money and get the older version.

The old ones are the same as the new ones, im about 99.999% sure. I have a '96, its neck is assymetrical. its quite nice. and there must be a mistake on the fender site. this is a passive bass, so no mid switch, its mids could be altered by the pickup configuration only. Of course, buy a used one, even up to 800-900 for a mint used one is a bargain. be aware this is a heavy and bulky 5 string, not a petite 5. But tone often requires heft.
