accoding to fender, S-1 switching system allows players to switch
from humbuckers to single-coils in an instant
that allows players to choose from a array of pickup configurations.

    it's cool? or terrible? why?

  2. I like to keep things simple and this would be confusing to me since I have been playing the same bass for 33 years!

    Good luck.

What's with the fancy switch-on-the-knob thing though? Couldn't they just have put in a separate switch, or push/pull pot?

If they did that, they couldn't brag about their "brand new patented switching system".
