Just wondering what everyone thought would be the better choice. A "new" Fender Special Jazz, 4 string. 3-tone sunburst, Rosewood board. Black pick-guard. Posiflex Graphite neck support rods. Greasebucket tone circuit...(I liked what it does.) Gig bag. MSRP...$1399.99 Street price...$999.00 This bass played great and sounded VERY good to my ears. Or....... A "Old/New" lakland Skyline Osborn 4 string. (First an explanation on the "Old/New" thing. This bass was hung on the wall, brand new, at a local music store in 2003. It never sold and they still have it on the wall 9 years later. I'm pretty much the only one that's showed interest in it...or even knew what it is.) Candy Apple Red finish, Rosewood board. White/Mint tint pick-guard. Passive electronics. Lindy Fralin j-style pick-ups. Gig bag. MSRP...$1350.00 (2003 price) My price $749.00 This bass still plays great even with the dead, original strings that are on it. Pick-ups seemed low output.
IMO I would be all over that JO. The early 2002-2004 Skyline are really as close to US Laklands as Skylines have ever been and the CAR Skyline JO is not common at all. $750 is a steal for that bass. If you pass it up let me know because I would be interested.
I'm a hard core Fender Jazz guy lookin' for more input from the hard core Lakland Jazz players to chime in on this.....
WOW! A CAR JO? those are pretty rare these days.... and fro $749? that is a steal...buy it and don't look back.... I have played several Fenders and like the Lakland feel and quality much better....you said the Fralins seem to have low output? that seems odd to me...maybe email [email protected] or [email protected] to get their opinion on why this could be...I have never had an issue with Fralins being "too quiet".... I really think you will love it! if not, you can easily sell it for what you paid!
