I'm a Toyota guy through and through. I love my 4Runner and have every intention of keeping it till the end of my days... but Ford just revealed the new Bronco and I gotta say, wow.

I'm impressed. Capability looks like it's there in spades, starts at a very reasonable price... I'm sorely tempted to add a blue oval to a stable that has been GM/Toyota for most of my life.

Am I imagining things or is its styling influenced by the FJ Cruiser?

I don't think so - if anything it's sort of a convergent evolution. Definitely harkens back to the Broncos of the 60s and early 70s, a more moderate interpretation. As the FJ Cruiser was a modernized version of the same era.

Really liking that Bronco!! Hope they didn't go too far with the modern trend of: high belt - line, low roof line. Big glass is better for actual off-road stuff IME.

There will always be some magic in the original Bronco, Toyota FJ40, and the Jeep CJ's.... to me. Owned a '78 CJ7 and a '90 YJ, spent many hours off road with them....

The article spoke of a granny gear in the Bronco - clever.

    Hard pass.
That doesn't look much like a Bronco to me. I've owned several.
It looks more like an FJ and a Honda Element to me.

Although it’s not a vehicle I would buy for me, I get it and kind of like it. If only I were about 30 years younger. Lol.

Looks like a kind of SUV I'd be into, but probably won't wind up buying. I can't justify that much clearance for 99% of my use cases.

    It's cool they've got a manual option w/ the 2.3L.

    Much better.
That squatted stance with the stuffed wheel wells makes a big difference.

And I've still yet to pay more than $5000 for any vehicle I've ever owned.

Assuming I wanted one of these heaps, I'd let someone else take the hit on buying it new. Then I could pick it up as a year old model for half price.

This is still the only authentic Bronco for me.

You can bet that aftermarket companies are already trying to place orders to get hands on one of these. Lift kits, bumpers, and all kinds of other stuff will be available basically as soon as they roll off the floor.

I never look at a vehicle as a completed piece, but rather as a base from which to modify. That's been true for me for almost as long as I've had a license. So yeah, maybe in stock form it looks a little pedestrian, but I'm looking at it with car guy eyes and seeing a lift, sliders, bumper, roof rack, and maybe even 37s.

And IFS with more travel than a Rubicon Wrangler? It'll drive politely on the street and be a climbing beast, especially with that granny gearing.

I've been developing a business plan for an off road park, the new Bronco might be just the kind of thing to catch the eye when modded and wrapped in business attire...
