i've heard of a fret job but i've never had one done on a bass...i have an old bass and the frets are scratched up and worn out basically....what do they do ...rip them out and put new ones in....if so ...how is that done......or do you have to buy a whole new neck with frets already in it.....i'm just trying to fix it up so it's not so crappy looking and playing

If the frets are so bad that they can't be crowned anymore, than a partial or full fret job is in order. DON'T do it yourself unless you know what you're doing. They'll pull out the frets and install new ones...Check with a qualified tech first...I've had instruments that I thought were beyond just a good crowning, that came back fine without replacing the frets.

I guess it really depends upon the bass to decide if it's worth the trouble.
