I recently came across a few photos of a new Precision-styled bass. These photos have been cleverly disguised through cartoonish artistic renderings on a childs dinner plate, possibly to avoid any flack from Fender (how clever of them!), but the Precision influence is clear. These designs are stamped with the Gibson name, however, photos of this stamp did not quite come out. I suspect the logo is infused with some form of stealth technology that prevents its being photographed; thus helping protect Gibson from any liability issues. The design appears to be straightforward (and left-handed!), with one unusual exception: a low-B string that appears to terminate over the pickup. I'm not quite sure how this is accomplished. Your guess is as good as mine!
I guess that B string won't be anything but mellow... EDIT: The B doesn't have a string tree either! I have got to get my hands on one of these, my curiosity is aroused.
These pics also need to be posted in the Chick Bass Players thread. She appears to have very relaxed technique and is using Todd's floating thumb method too. Will be very interesting to see if they plan on making them in a right-handed version too.
Correct. Sort of. It's an original "tug bar" that has been relocated for use as a thumbrest. If you look closely at the lower bout, I think you can see the original holes.
i can't believe you've all missed the most obvious of things.... it's got a fretless maple FB AND it seems to have the gibson robot-tuners!
This bass is currently available in packs of two (?) for $1.00 at Dollar Tree stores nationwide. Or one for $895 at Guitar Center; case not included...
"Friends Let You Be You" and to show a true sign of individualism... she's a bass player... I absolutely LOVE it!
