Still have mine but not using it at the moment, got the HX Stomp and its working out great.
I sold mine a while back and got a Palmer Pocket Amp Bass. I just used the Plex as a headphone amp with an aux in and as an emergency backup preamp DI. The Palmer does everything I need. It’s smaller and runs on batteries and it stays in my bass gig bag in case my amp goes out. I like the fact that the Palmer’s footswitch can act as a mute and that was one of the reasons I liked the Plex.
Swapped mine for a rat rod bass and went to the HX Stomp. Which is a shame because I love me some GK products.
Sold mine, but just got a new one. I missed it a lot!
How would you compare the 800RB sims on both units? I'm still wavering on both! The stomp is not cheap.
The GK sim is not my fav in the stomp, but I'm still fairly new to it and most likely there's some user error involved there. The stock GK preset sounds okay mind you, but the SVT is by far my favorite. I've just started experimenting with some guitar heads, the fender bassman in particular,...and it sounds pretty damn good as well.
The Stomp is a good deal more expensive than the Plex,......but it covers a LOT more ground. The compressors are much nicer than whats in the Plex , and a LOT more tweakable. I'm using the Stomp as a stand alone unit for casino gigs and have gotten rave reviews from the FOH guys with it. More so than I did with the plex. I don't regret making the switch.
I love my GK MBF800 and NEO 212 cab, but I'm mostly just using the stomp for casinos, which comprise most of my gigs.
Thank you for your insight! I appreciate it.
i also got rid of it. i'll stick to GK's more analog stuff.
no, how do i unsubscribe to the topic?
So I got the Plex so far I'm still trying to bond with it it's a bit harsh sounding so I've been researching how to warm it up a little bit mostly I just been using it bypassed but I'm not giving up because I'm a die-hard GK user I'm going down with the ship
I've been looking at the Plex for awhile...........
I'm going ampless these days & struggling a bit.
I've been using GK's amps for a long time. lately, without a cabinet. Just using the DI.
But I've been going strainght direct for a bit & I miss the GK sound.
I've tried a bunch of stuff. Sansamp, Tech 21 DP-3X, MXR M81........
I had my amps setup & never touched the controls. Turn it on & go.
As far as the Plex goes, does it truly capture the GK tone?
I don't care about the tuner, compressor, OD or updates. I just a need a preamp that does what my amps did. I want to set it & forget. All IEM, so no need to adjust to the room.
I'm looking at the Helix & possibly the Headrush as well.
The amp sims are good. If you don't care about the rest I say go for it. There's a video comparing the Plex and the GK amps it's emulating. And it does them well. But for flexibility, I might suggest the Helix though. HX Stomp if you're on a budget on money and real estate.
I couldn't give you an accurate comparison as I haven't dialled in my tone properly yet with the amp sims. I have played around with them and the 800RB does sound good, but last week I set up a patch with no amp/cab sims at all, just compression and EQ and I have to say I prefer this tone to what I was getting with the sims. But as I say, most likely due to my not setting them up properly yet.
For sale, in case anyone is looking for one:

So my Plex friends how to get warmer overdrive tones from the Plex? The overdrive has a fair edge to it I would like to warm up a little.
Also how to set the compressor for a tiny bit of compression and a clean boost or just a straight clean boost?
Also is there a way to disable the tuner function?
I occasionally turn it on by mistake and it gets exciting one gig when you loose sound.
I like me some GK BTW!
OK so reading the chart and maybe settings:
Bump Level 1
Contour Level 1
Hi Cut Level 2
Presence Level 0
Voice Level 5
Drive Level 1
Attack Level 2
Ratio Level 1
For drive I can't help as i find the Level 1 and 2 fairly warm (at least for me). Remember when engaging the Drive at level 1 to raise the level (to me drive level 2 at 12oclock is the same output as the clan signal, level 1 need some boost while others levels needs to be progressively lowered). Try to experiment with some of the voicing (to me voice 1 and especially 2 sounds "warmer")
For compression don't be afraid of keeping the threshold knob low. Very low. Before I lowered the output on my bass, I was used to kept threshold almost all counterclockwise to let the green led lit just occasionally.
Ratio and attack may vary (though I'd like to have slow attack/fast release setting... )
Don't think the tuner can be disabled. In fact the "difficult" double tap to engage it was something a lot of people complaint about. Honestly it was never a problem for me.
Thank you sounds like good advice.
I bought a Plex over a year ago just because I really like GK amps; I’ve owned a 200RCB, 400RB, 700RB, 800RB, 1001RB, MB500 and MB500 Fusion over the years. My current band (progressive) rehearses through a PA (Soundcraft ui16) and we all wear in ears or headphones. I use a few effects and play a Carvin LB76, which is active. I was also using a Radial JDI, which I have for years. In this setting it was harsh sounding, especially in the higher frequencies and it was way too clanky. So I started looking into cab simulators until it occurred to me to try the Plex. Last night I used it just as a DI and the most amazing sound came out of the headphones. I immediately eliminated my compressor and bypassed the eq on the PA. I’ve never thought of using the Plex as a DI, but it worked so well and was so easy to dial in that it has just become my DI of choice.
It definitely offers a lot and can be a cool straight in DI. Its maybe a little more complicated than I'm used to so setting it and understanding it is a little more involved. I spent some time with it after rehearsal today and I'm liking what I got.
So I went with:
Bump Level 1
Contour Level 0
Hi Cut Level 1
Presence Level 0
Voice Level 3
Drive Level 1
Attack Level 1
Ratio Level 1
So I got some good results here though the overdrive tones are still a lit brazen but I can live with it. I got the overdrive set primarily for boost and the compressor set for boost too. I also use an OCD V3 for nasty tones though my favorite overdrive tones are the OD channel on the MB500 Fusion though I don't use it for every gig.
So my pedal board setup in Shure GLX-D16, DOD Meat Box, Diamond Bass Compressor, OCD, Plex to amp.
I wonder if sing the loop on the Plex would be of any befit?
Also is it me or does the Plex have a built in noise gate?
