I'm going to mod a bass and I need to know how much it would cost to make holes for a darkstar and a pbass pup. Could someone give me a quote of what you paid. Or even better a number or email of a houston luthier.

You could do it yourself with a router for a helluva lot less than a luthier would.

Other than that, you're probably going to be paying over $100.

  4. Hi.

    ^+1.

I've never "outsourced" such a task, but $100+ would be my estimate too.

If You're handy with power tools at all, you'll get an entry level router and bits for far less than the routing job by a luthier would set you back.

You can also go with the "drill & chisel" route for even less money, but the results aren't necessarily pleasing to the eye ;).

NOT that they can't be, luthiers and carpenters do all sorts of fancy stuff with basic hand tools.

If you enjoy Mods on a bass, you may enjoy learning to do it yourself. Just learn routing on scrap wood, not you bass.

I use a stanley blade, hand chisels, and a battery drill for all my routs!:D

Most of them come out well enough, but under the pickup may not be super pretty.;)

I would expect a carpenter to have a router, so yeah, should be good to go.

Bass wiring is pretty simple, I believe your setup is all passive volume/tones and a killswitch. Easy stuff, fiddly, but not hard.
