Some of you may remember that I had the chance to own the very first JP SC5:

It was a great playing and great sounding bass. However I wanted another string and something lighter! I thought about selling it initially, but I traded it against HMan's vortex 5, and ordered to JP a new Zia 6 string.

The specs for the new ZIA 6 are:
    - bolt-on wenge neck
    - black limba stabilized fingerboard
    - koa top

    Looks promising!

I forgot to mention that even if the Plume outinle is showed in the pics this one will be a Zia! Zia template is on its way to Larry @ galleryhardwoods ;)

I'll take new pics with the Zia shape as soon as I have the wood on hands.

    remaining specs are:
JP pickups and "unstacked" E-Pro BTB-01 preamp + passive tone control
    Electrosocket output jack
    hipshot aluminium style A bridge
    hipshot ultralite tuners.

Ari is a big fan of black hardware so he asked for black ;)
Of course, my choice would have been Chrome :D

    Peace, JP

    Hi JP,

Is that a new headstock design for the Zia?? Do you have an option of which headstock to choose? I kinda like the one on my SC5 better.

BTW, love the body shape of the Zia!

    Peace, H

Horace this one of a kind Zia is gonna be an "headless" 7 strings.

the headed version remain the same shape as your Plume SC.

    Peace, JP

  12. That one in the top left corner looks evil! Those are some damn nice tops you got going there JP!

  13. VERY nice work JP! I love the Zia body - especially that spalt maple!!:D

This is the first I've heard of Stabilized black limba. It makes sense since it's a Species of mahogany, so it would be hard and resonant.
Do you know much about how it will sound? How about as a fretless fingerboard?

This is one bass I'll be watching!!:bassist:

whichever wood you stabilize could be used as a fretless fingerboard IMO. Also I believe that stabilizing evens the different wood properties.

Carey could confim that as he uses stabilized boards too.

Anyway, I think everyone here knows that I'm not a believer of "choosing a wood for tone like you choose a sandwich for taste" ;)

    Peace, JP
