I am new to Bass after 25 years on guitar. What would be a good starter bass and amp to buy ? I want to play pubs and clubs up to 1000 capacity. My Budgit is 10 000 us dollars.
I would like some effects as well, on a floorboard if possible

    Thank you

  2. Yes you are at the right place for your question, and Tbers are going to tell you the best.
But before everybody will ask same as I do now :
What kind of music do you play, what sound do you like, what sort of effects would you use, who are your main bassist influence.

Are you looking for colored sound or actual sound of your bass and fingers?

For big gigs you could probably be playing DI direct.
For smaller gigs, for your budget, I'd get a head + cabs + preamp.

    Best regards,

I want to play rock some Jazza and blues
    I would llike mutiple effects

Bass influence Phil lynot, John Paul Jones

I want sound of bass and fingers, a very responsive sound

I also want a slapping sound like Mark King Level 42

  5. Hey Monkey,
I suggest you post something for Amp and effects on right section of the forum, so I reply only for the bass topic.

For what you say, you wouldn't be wrong with a jazz bass with active electronics for better onboard soundcontrol and "responsivity".

I'd look on these brands that I know are fine :
    Hot wire : http://www.hotwire-bass.com
    Lakland
Vigier http://www.vigier.fr perhaps Excess model would be good for rock Geezer Butler, Roger Glover, Glenn Hughes play it.

Other Tbrs will say you more

Yup, that's what I was thinking. You'd like the active preamp for slapping too.

    Sadowsky maybe?

    My oh my...10,000

Iduno, but personally I love Ibanez basses - and I may get knocked for this, but check out the SR and BTB lines and stuff...good stuff and they're pretty cheap...

But then again, it may be because I'm also lookin atthis from my own budget which isn't very mcuh...
