In case anyone was following this thread ( http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=385355 ) it now looks like there are absolutely no stock, off-the-shelf replacement necks that will fit this Warmoth body I have. So if I want to go through with my plan to convert this bass to an 8-string (octave courses) I'll need to get a totally custom neck fabricated. I've found two reputable luthiers willing to do the job: Mike of Michael Dolan Custom Guitars http://www.dolanguitars.com/ or Dave Bunker of Treker Guitars http://www.trekerguitars.com/ Based on preliminary email discussions of the project both gentlemen seem astute, thorough, and responsible. Both offer a similar turnaround time. Both offer similar pricing. How the heck do I choose between these two fine craftsmen?!?!?!?
That's the idiom I was looking for! "Throw A Coin," right... Dammit, I thought it was "Toss The Cookies" so I tried that. Still didn't help me decide, but I got puke all over my shoes.
I don't know if you've seen my past posts on the subject, but Mike Dolan did fantastic work for me with a custom neck (the shiny black fretless P). Thumbs up.
Have no experience with Bunker, but I'd have no reservations with having Dolan make one. I've played a few of his basses and was impressed. His experience in modern bass building is matched by only a few. Marshall
I can not say enough good things about Michael Dolan , he is one fine Lutheir and a nice guy as well. He built this custom violin bass for me http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=298945&highlight=head+hands+violin You will not be disappointed with Dolan's quality.
I don't know about Treker, but I have a 4 string jazz neck that is awesome. Everytime someone plays the bass they are amazed about the feel of the neck. Can't go wrong with Dolan.
