If I place new Dimarzio Ultra Jazz pickups on my Marcus Fender would I have to use the active tone controls already installed, take them out or do I need one at all?
I like having the versatility of active pickups. Do the ultra jazzes have enough tone variation already?
    What do you think?

I could be wrong, but I don't think the pickups on the MM are active. The bass is active, cos it has a preamp, but AFAIK the pickups are passive.

Assuming that's the case, replacing them with UJ's should be simple.

Yep, the MM's are passive pups - apparently Fender's vintage J's from feedback I've recieved: at least the 4 bangers. Plop them in and see what you think and go from there.
