New pics of my 'old' Warwick Thumb...

  1. She's been bashed and beaten - and played until the finish has worn away - but I still love her!

Just bought a new Fuji S5000 digicam - so this had to be my first subject - custom 5 pics coming soon!

Thanks for the pics! Is it fitted with EMG pickups?

What's great about oil finishes is that you can actually have the bass sanded and oiled again to give it a new youth.

  3. Hi Ari, they are actually MEC's which I know jack s*** about - but they still sound awesome - I'd be very reluctant to touch the finish even though it is getting a bit blackened in places - it's still looking nice so until I need some majoy repairs doing I'll leave it - I love this bass as it is!

new is nice... but nothing beats adding your own Mojo
    :bassist:

    Looks good!

  5. the sticker on the battery cover has been there for ten years - it's a little 'dude' with a big 'fro' - when I had it stolen (the bass that is)_ this was one of the distinguishing marks that helped get it back, so I daren't take it off - it's MY bass dammit!

I love thumbs, but I could never get over the neck dive so I got a streamer instead. But I so miss the tone of my old thumb.

You are lucky. Thats a sweet one.

Did you put the fret markers on yourself?

  8. Sorry I don't understand - if you mean the dots, then no I didn't - why do you ask? This was straight off the shelf - some 14 years back...

O cause Warwicks dont have them anymore. (cept streamers)

  10. Sorry to hear that dude - I really am behind the times doh! I feel old...well I'm 31 - not that old then! That's so crap of Warwick huh? I don't recognise some of their basses these days - some are nice - a lot are just 'wrong'

I dont mind it. I like the clean fingerboard look of Warwicks... although those markers are small enoough that they wouldnt get annoying.

  12. Call me retarded - but I NEED dots on a 26 fret neck - I don't care who you are - you need some reference to look at mid-song while trying to sing backing vocals, in dodgy lighting with the rest of the band going nuts...

i do have a couple more, they arn't very good. but here they are. i know that pic isn't great, but i love how the grain looks in black and white. these are pretty poor as well but still....
sorry to hijack your thread URB :bag:

  17. Loving your 6 - 6 String Demon! I tried a superb 6 string 1991 thru-neck Thumb, second-hand at the Bass Centre in London - trouble was it was unbelievably heavy - I played it sitting down and it really dug into my thigh! I think my back would have been completly ****ed if I played a long gig/session with it - however it was soooo gorgeous to play - like my 4 string but with a couple more strings - getting around the neck was really easy - and it was only £1300 - which is about $2600! Shame I couldn't afford it.

£1300 is actually about $2380 just fyi.
my bass is also crazily heavy, but i just love it. if anyone ever sees and early unlined fretless 6 around ;)

  19. Well that's an even better price in dollars - it was an absolute steal for £1300 - it had stunningly figured Bubinga and like I say the neck was so smooth - I could even do all my Wooten thumb stuff at speed on the high C - it was a monster - I'm saving for a Nordstrand SC6 now anyway!

Just make sure you hold on to that beauty - current Warwicks kinda suck IMO

I agree ! Newer Warwicks definitely don't have the same vibe.

    I have a '95 Thumb bolt-on that I bought new - and I've just bought a lovely '90 Streamer S1 5. I guess I love older Warwicks !

6 string demon - PM me if you ever want to get rid of this Thumb :D
