Any experience with these yet? I have two NS Mini's and they struggle to pick up the low B on my 5 string if there's other noise (especially drums) going on on stage.

Just ordered one! The original was great for quick unobtrusive tuning, this one will be even better.

I'm interested to see the metronome function...

Great site by the way! I look forward to buying from you again!

I have not tried out the new one yet. They literally started shipping yesterday.

My experience with the original one was it worked well when installed correctly and most basses. As long as there was not overwhelming low-end rumble in a sound system it tuned well. Will see how much more sensitive this new unit is tomorrow.

That's my issue. I'm often situated near the subwoofer. Even without a sub, the acoustic drums are enough to make the NS Mini struggle with the B string. The two Snarks I have had no issues in these situations, but I absolutely hate their design. I really like how the NS Micro looks so I'm really hoping the sensitivity is better.

They did improve the clamp which I found to be testy with the original. If the tension wasn't just right it wouldn't function as well. You also need to find the sweet spot on your bass. It is not in the same spot for each instrument.

Looking great, I want a few of those.

Just wondering about why there would be a problem with "low end rumble" or drums ... you'd normally tune silently, and inbetween songs, no?

  8. I have a few Original NS tuners. @ 20$ each, I just dismantled the tuner and took out the piezo from it. I hot-glued the piezo to the headstock of my bass. Soldered the piezo back, and fit the whole tuner on top of the piezo using small screws. Permanently installed on the bass. Nobody sees it but me...

Not for the faint of heart but well worth it on my main Gigging bass. No more lost Tuner EVER...

Looking forward to try it with the new NS.

I received mine today, and I'm very disappointed with it. The sensitivity is even worse than my last NS Mini. It's slow to pickup the strings. It really struggles with the E string, and doesn't pick up the B string at all. I've tried everything. I tried it every spot possible on the headstock with various levels of pressure with the clamp. Nothing helps. It won't even pick up the 12th fret harmonic on the B string. That makes it completely unusable for me.

The original NS Mini worked great. The updated NS Mini struggled with the B string. This new NS Micro struggles with the E string. This is so disappointing because I love the design of the NS tuners. I'm stuck with Snark tuners, which I hate the design of, but they work consistently. Oh well.

    UPDATE:

I just made a very interesting observation. If I push the tuner all the way against the side of the headstock, it won't pick up the B string as I've mentioned above. But if I pull the tuner away from the headstock (see pic below) it picks up the B string. In fact, it seems the further I pull it from the headstock, the better it picks up the B string. It's a little weird, but I may keep it after all. I'll find out this weekend how well it works with other stage noises going on.

Yeah I have to agree, they look great, but they are actually not very good ... I wish I hadn't bought three sight unseen.

  13. Maybe it would work better on a different part of the headstock? I would expect better results further out toward the G tuner.

As I've said, I've been trying it in ever spot possible. In my case, it seems the further I move towards the end of the headstock, the worse the sensitivity gets.

  15. Ahh so you did. Hmmm. Crap.

  16. That actually makes sense. I've seen high-speed photography that shows that when the neck vibrates it actually twists quite a bit, so that the outer edges of the headstock deflect more than the inner portions.
Still, the tuner really ought to catch it anywhere. Maybe yours is defective?

    Don't like hearing that...

How tight do you have it clamped? It doesn't like being clamped as tight as possible.

PM me and I will give you an email address to contact at D'Addario / Planet Waves

  18. He says he tried it with various clamping pressures...

DOM - I just PM'd you regarding the tuner. Let's get you a new one to see if that's one is just being squirrelly. We haven't heard this comment yet but it's only been out for 2 weeks. I've got one on a 4 and 5 string here and it took me several placements to find where they worked best but that doesn't discount your experience. Shoot me an email and we'll get you one pronto. I should add I have now tried the tuners with my other basses and guitars and the results vary quite a bit; on the guitars and some of the basses the tuners work quite OK. Needs some more tests to figure this out, methinks.
