Beautiful David King Style “D” Wide 5. The current direct replacement cost for this bass is
$5,400 (including the cost of options, the gig-bag and shipping). David’s website is very informative and goes into great detail of how he builds a bass. The hardware on these basses is actually machined in-house by Mr. King. The attention to detail is brilliant as he believes that each individual component of the bass is as important as the entire finished instrument. You can review all this info on his site: www.kingbass.com .

Here is Mr. Kings general description of the advantages of Headless Basses: “Headless basses are balanced, unbreakable, are more even from string to string and note to note, have better note definition, longer sustain, stay in tune better, are quicker for string changes, can be carried on planes, and are safer on stage”. I’ve played headless basses for 30 years and have found these claims to be accurate. Here are the basic specs of this bass:

35“/89cm Scale Headless “Brown Bass" Wide 5 (All dark woods.)
    Asymmetrically Carved 24 Fret Neck
1.90"/48mm Nut Width (for 0.40"/10mm. nut spacing)
    3.0"/76mm Width @ 24th Fret (for .075"/19mm. bridge spacing)
    9“ to 20“ Fingerboard Radius
Fret Size (highest quality DiMarzio wire, .103" x .046")
    8.6lbs. Total Weight
Gorgeous Zebrano Top w/ Black Walnut Back
Wenge Fretboard and Center Stringer in Neck (VERY Stable)
Santos (mahogany) and Dark Purpleheart Neck Woods
Tru-Oil over Light Amber Shellac Finish
    Optional Zinc Hardware Plating
    Optional Zebrano Control Knobs (4)
Original Lane Poor HB (humbucking) Pickups (2)
Custom Morch 18v. Preamp (made in Denmark), (Concentric bass and treble with center detents, 18dB boost, 6dB cut).
Exclusive Dovetail “Magic Box” Control Cover (No tools or magnets required)
    Reunion Blues Gig-bag

This is a beautiful, rich & articulate sounding bass that almost NEVER comes up for sale. This bass has seen very little use (I’m a lousy 5 string player and I have a King “BEAD” 4 for when I need a low B) and is in excellent condition. There are a couple of tiny dings that won’t photograph, hardly worth mentioning. If you’re looking for one of the rarest, highest quality basses available this one will save you around $3K and a long wait! Check out David’s website, you’ll be impressed.

Sad that this bass is in Albany and I don't have an "extra" $2,400... Good luck with your sale!

My next bass will be a $200 fender clone- commensurate to me economics/needs. It's good to know such awesome ergonomic instruments aren't too far away. If you want to trade for a side of beef/hunting rights/massage therapy services we can certainly work something out!

Surprised no one from the Berklee community at large has stepped up on this one. Fernando Huergo has been playing a DK 5 and teaching there for many years.
