I added another Ric to the mini-fleet today.....a JetGlo 4004 Laredo. I immediately swapped all of the chrome hardware for black. I'm going to get the neck refinished in black as well to make my version of an updated Blackstar. Anyway here are a couple pics plus a new "family portrait".......
There's some much nicer collections out there......I could have more but I try to keep it to the necessities. I may actually be selling the 4003s8 soon as I don't really "need" it. I hate to do it since it is probably the nicest playing/sounding of all of the s8's I've tried but it hasn't been getting much use lately and I'm trying to keep my gig arsenal to two basses.....now it will be the new JetGlo 4004 and the 4004Cii (tuned BEAD). I can be a little more selective of what gigs I take the LK to now which is why I bought the JetGlo. Woe is me.
The first thing that came to mind when reading this thread title was "...but can it be used for songs other than Metallica's?" Very nice collection, and I think that's the first Lemmy I've ever seen outside of Ric promotional shots. I like.
JT....if only it was a 4 and 8 sting bass doubleneck I'd be all set. Dude....I already bought mine when the one with Darkstars came up on the 'Pit or I might of bought it. The chunky necks don't bother me but I prefer the p/u spacing on mine (with the p/u's shifted towards the neck). Kink.....The BEAD tuning seems well suited to the 4004 (and it was great on a 4003 I owned as well). The B string is nice and defined.....no issues at all. Kurt.....I'm not totally convinced that I can bring myself to part with the s8. I really do love it. I just have only so much toy money and I've stretched it a tad lately so the s8 is the only one of my Rics that I don't actually "need".......I don't "need" the LK either but selling it isn't an option.
DO NOT SELL THE 8 STRING !!!!! aprox 16 years ago I sold my gloss walnut\autumglo 4008(not a 4003s8) and regret it every day of my miserable life, and YOU TOO will regret it if you sell it. that one is a KEEPER and it's a sharp lookin one too
I love Rics. The tone is so... versatile and the aesthetic is so idiosyncratic. When you're playing a Ric, people KNOW it's a Ric. Not to mention the growl you can get out of the things. If you want to hear an example of a Ric with growl, check out the URL provided in my signature and listen to the "Bolero of Fire" cover. Pure Ric right there.
Forget the 4/8 doubleneck Ric idea. I already begged John Hall for a bunch of them a few years ago and he said no way. I also asked him for a 4/4 fretted and fretless to which I got the same reply.
