New Ric or vintage?

    I,m glad I bought mine new in 99 cause I,ve had 13 years of pleasure with mine.
    Don,t put it off,just get one you like and grow old together.
    I would get a new one if I was doing it again though.
     
  2. New ones are much fuller sounding - I have owned a couple of 4001's - loved them to bits, but find the newer 4003's just 'bigger', especially in a modern recording/playing environment.

    Depends on the style of neck you are looking for. The C64S and many of the early 70's 4001 basses have a much thinner faster neck imo and are easier to play.

    You can do reversible mods to achieve the new 4003 sound if you prefer that with the older basses. The new 4003s that I have played have a chunkier neck....still feel and play great but definitely a thicker profile.
