I think it would look pretty cool with black plastic & hardware.
Too bad black TRCs are unobtanium. I have a walnut 650 Dakota, and I swapped out the chrome control plate cover for black to match the TRC since the chrome was a spooge magnet. It’s a good look.
They are pretty easy to make.
1/8" black plexiglass cut to shape, and I had the guy at my local mall print out the logo - he normally make window stickers for cars. I had a few done in reverse, so I could stick the sticker to the back of clear plexi, and then paint the back black. When I had access to a laser printer, I made of couple of TRC in maple.
Of course, no more sticker guy at the mall. My local mall is now a empty husk. And the maker space with the laser printer shut down.
Local Sam Ash has one of the new 5's in Fireglo. $2200+. What I really want is the Walnut/maple.
The world needs another powerpop band with guys in their mid 50s.
With the real ones selling for over $200 it has caused an explosion of "replacement" parts
You can buy them from China pretty easy and pretty cheap
US $45.0 |truss rod cover for 4003 bass guitar(15cm*4cm*0.3cm) ;1 lot =5PCS-in Guitar from Sports & Entertainment on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group
you make our own out of plastic and wood … and you can take white one and paint them black and sand the paint off of the raised letters
40 inches?!?!? Those must be HUGE!
So NOT made in the U.S.A.!
They are actually the correct size …
This picture is a mixture of fake and real ones

Only Rickenbacker owners would pay over $200 for a $5 piece of plastic
I once paid $120 for an authentic piece of plastic, does that count?
Ye me too … back then … but no longer
You and I both have the skills to make fakes that look better than the real ones …
I have 2 real Ricks and I swap out the TRC several times a year for a different look …
My credit card is a piece of plastic that is charged to the max. Way more than $200. Haha
I try to never carry a balance
Since Ric ripped off the Tubeampology Treble bezel, I have zero sympathy for them if China does the same with their TRC’s, blatant theft of IP in both cases, so much for Hall’s High Horse, he shot it dead himself.
You’re a smart person. I definitely know better, but I don’t follow my own knowledge.
Try the local trophy shop. The guy in my town has a laser printer and did my TRC, based on logo art that I provided.
That's called authenticity!
I did end up hitting CME today to check out the walnut 4003S/5. Oh, my... time to start raising money.
I have had no issues with the outside strings being too close to the edges of the fretboard.
And as you can see a few pages back in this thread, the string spacing is adjustable at the bridge.
