This CD has some really nice bass / drum work on it, not to mention the other musicians. Kim Stone and David Karasony do some nice funk grooves on a few uptempo tunes, with Kim doing a smokin' slap solo on one of the tunes. They also lay down some nice and simple "in the pocket" grooves for the smooth jazz material on the album.

Rippingtons' recording typically don't excite me, but this one has a few funk grooves that sound great. The EQ and mix of this particular recording is also exceptional. It's one of those CDs that you can use to show off your stereo system, excellent sonic dynamics in the lows and mids with a nice refined hi-fi style "air" up in the upper frequency range. :)

  2. I did not know they had a new cd out.

"Welcome to the St. James Club" is one of my favorite cd's by the Rippingtons. Always liked Kim's playing and Russ Freeman is an amazing songwriter. :)
