I was watching the first episode of FlCl and about 5 min in, a character comes on a moped...with a Blue RIC! The character then uses it as a WEAPON, bashing another character. Man, it's on commercial right now but that just strikes me as weird. A RIC in anime? Don't see that everyday.
Hey I saw that episode too, along with the advertisement of jaco, vic, and claypool. I was just thinking "did she just use a blue rick as a friggen sword?"
It looked like a left handed RIC-o-clone to me... But I only got a quick glimpse of a captured still shot. Hmm, if using it as a sword would that make it "through neck" rather than neck through...?
I saw FLCL about two years ago, and it's hilarious. The weirdness is only getting started with the Ric-sword. It's made by Gaianax, which basically makes every weird anime that makes little to no sense yet somehow becomes a hit.
haha. I subtitled the first episode when it first came out, and while on the surface FLCL makes no sense whatsoever, there is actually a ridiculously deep plot underneath all the nonsense. It basically has to do with ta-kun's brother, who's playing baseball in america, and mamimi's relationship with him.
It is indeed a Ric. I looked at a bit of promo art that shows the bass up close, and sure enough, the Rickenbacker logo is in plain sight. Now for weird anime, the show of choice is most definately Revolutionary Girl Utena (Shoujo Kakumei Utena, whatever.) ... I've found a few little fretlessy riffs in the background music of SKU... Wonderful, wonderful show.
I just saw Fooly Cooly for the first time....jeez that show is weird. I like how all that crazy bizzare **** is happening all the time but the lead character is just kind of like "yeah...whatever" and that pink haired ric player is pretty awesome. cool show.
just wait till they pay homage to South Park, as well as the Daicon IV opening animation. very hip stuff.
i dont have cable at home, but i just saw an episode lastnight, while staying at a Holiday Inn the producer had shacked up the band. farkin' weird. i caught myself in the mirror across from my bed, and realized i was making this contoured face as i watched! i saw just the last 10 min, and it was the episode where these two characters were arguing about some play they were putting on. and suddenly in the heat of the argument, these rabbit ears and then this HUGE alien pops out of the girl's head, trying to walk off, while she's still attached to it. a red haired character with her apparent sidekick, a TV headed cyborg, tries to chase it down, and she's constantly trying to ram her ricky bass down its "eye" or whatever that was. they finally defeat it, when some curry rice from a friend's lunch lands in its "mouth", and it subsequently, "discharges" the girl from its hind section, and explodes in a raging ball of fire. ***??? if any of that made sense to anyone, pleez explain that episode... but all in all, i was really impressed with the level of detail and animation. and hey, the Rick nearly saved the day.
My friends here in Ohio who I'm visiting got me into it, it dosen't really make much sense, but I really don't want to miss an episode!! Its really strange, yet great at the same time.
Well, tonight's episode had not only the South Park homage, but the cyborg-thingey using a Gibson EB-0 as a weapon at the end. I can't decide if I like the show or not. It goes from really beautiful animation and script to completely nonsensical madness. Tonight the dad even had a Nazi uniform on???? Weirdness.
I once had an idea for a television show, where every scene was completely different. but the same. like say everyone is in a green room with a blue couch wearing yellow clothing, the next cut they would all be wearing red, in an orange room with a brown couch....and then the next cut everything would change like that again. it would be too much work, but it would certainly make quite scratch a few heads.
