New Spalted Maple Sadowsky!

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Jeff in TX, Oct 30, 2001.

  1. Yes, I did just get the pictures from Roger on the first two tops he has ever done in spalted maple.

I think they are both beautiful and typical of Roger's outstanding work.

I know which one I am going to choose for my new fretless, just curious as to which you like the best.

    Here's one (#586):

    And here's the other (#587):

    I wish I could justify both! :D

They're both great, but I like #586 the best.

Hey, both bodys look AWESOME !

But I'm going to say that #586 is having my vote:D , it would be nice to justify both !

    What's your choice?

    Congratulations !

I also received a pic from Roger, with the body of my in-progress Vintage 5 Transparent Blue. He is a MASTER in this matter !

  4. hehe, Jeff

I've been pimping those pictures out in a few threads today as well. Roger sent them to me when I inquired about the second spalted maple body.

I like 586 the best, but would love to have either. Sadly, I don't have anywhere near enough money for a Sadowsky (yet).

They're both HELLA :))) nice but #586 is nicest. :) I'm not even going to ask how much... Ok how much approx wil your FL be??? They're both the 24 fret aren't they? I need more details. :D
Btw I saw my first Fodera a few days ago, and whoa they look better in person, 2nd hand and 1800 UKP (2600 USD).

  7. 1. Damn you, Jeff, and Sadowsky. Just when I though I was getting over g.a.s.! ;) Argghh!!!! Pant, pant, huff, huff!

    2. #587--more flame than 586

    3. I have to run and take some beta blockers and a cold shower.

Spalted maple is sweet! Oh boy... 587 looks nicer with more flame, but 586 has a darker shade that's also quite appealing. But they are both great.

  10. Matt,

My bass will be around $3700 US. It will be the 24 fret model. Will have an ebony board with maple fretlines, black hardware and the passive control option.

And it should be here in tine for Christmas!

Sounds fretlesstastic:eek:. Will it have single coils? I'm never sure about what pu's the Sadowsky have under the bonnet. We need more in the UK.

    Oh Nino!!!!

  13. No, EMG humbuckers. My Vintage 5 has the single coils. I love 'em on a fretted. Roger recommended the EMGs on this bass. My instructor is also getting a Sadowsky fretless made - his will have single coils. I'm interested in comparing the two.

that 586 is gorgeous...i have the worst case of G.A.S. right now...

Jeff, is the whole body maple? Won't that be a tad bright??? (or is that your aim?)

I like 587 the best, but I would buy 586, only because it is the first one!!

  16. No, the body is ash. It's interesting, though... Roger bends his quilted and flamed maple tops onto the upper arm contour. Spalted maple is very difficult to bend, so he thought he would have to blend it into the ash for the contour - like Zon does on their tops. But, he got both pieces to bend. Very cool!

I don't like Sadowsky's at all but I think those two look great. I like the second one best.

:) I saw both bodies in person before they were painted & I almost had a heart attack!!!!! They are soooo awesome looking. I would love to buy the one that Jeff dosen't buy but I want a 4 string Sadowsky (which I have on order :)). And $3700 is WAY out of my price range. :(

I love #587. The flame is awesome!!!!!!!

I like 587 the best. It has more contrast than the other. But I would happily take either.
