New Steinbergers on their way!

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by drivenmore, Jan 21, 2005.

  1. Just FYI-

Check out the new Synapse line:

    Steinberger website

You can see more info from their original press release at the Steinberger World site:

    Steinberger World

I just preordered (from the online catalog buddy) an amber Synapse XS-15FPA Custom 5-String Bass which--if all goes well--should arrive sometime next month.

Anyway, I'm pretty excited to try this puppy out. I'm sure many won't like their new look, but it fits my casino funk gig to a T--portable, light, with an EMG in the sweet spot, PLUS a piezo in the bridge.

    Ok, discuss amongst yourselves...

After the debacle with the reintroduction of the new high-end Tobias basses, I refuse to have anything to do with an instrument Gibson has tainted. At this point, that includes approaching without a full-body HAZMAT suit.

Yes, Gibson is that dangerous to your health. :scowl:
  3. Yeah, that was a fiasco, but the odds are better this time, considering that Ned has been involved with the project from the get-go.

Plus, I can always return her if it just utterly sucks ;)

Enough for me to stay clear, Gibson screwed me once on a new Les Paul and they put out some God awful guitars these days. :spit:

You can actually get them through Musician's Friend--there's a link over on the Steinberger World page (linked in the first post).

I think the basses were selling somewhere in the $1200 range.

I'm loving the design (and I'm tempted to start gassin' over a fretless fiver) but the Gibson factor makes me very, very wary.

Looking good, finally a Steinberger which doesn't requier those Hard-to-obtain double ball strings.

I wonder if they will also come with an M body style and bass transtrem.
  13. That TransScale instrument with the built-in capo is a great idea. Pity these are Gibson-made.
  14. I'm curious, does Gibson screw over every company's product that they acquire? I mean, Tobias, Steinberger, Echoplex ...

Perhaps they should stick with mass-producing overpriced Les Pauls.

Gotta admit I'm really intrigued by these... but like others have said, the Gibson thing makes me nervous.

I see it as a shallow attempt to squeeze a few last bucks out of the franchise. I do not expect anything new or innovative.

It's almost comical at this point.

Well I'm hooked cause they're doin a six!!!! That bass is cool, plus Ned's back with the company so I'm not as worried about the Gibson curse. I noticed the origional string spacing on that 5 string, something I'm glad they're doing. 5 strings crammed into a 4 string neck like the old ones just dont cut it. The pricing is cool too, I'm on one.

Actually, it is a hybrid wood/composite.

The strap hook solves one of the problems that the original Steinberger basses had, the fact that they were neck heavy. Moving the strap closer to the end of the neck does wonders for the balance of the instrument.
