So for a change I'm going to try EB Slinky Cobolts. On my basses I've been a Rotosound user mostly, but I've recently seen a few on-line videos praising these, and I've a Traben Phoenix on the way that doesnt have any strings fitted, so thought I'd get some that might match the style and give me a nice dynamic feel. I play in a goth/dark rock band and the Traban might compliment the rest of my stable (Sandberg/Fender/Shergold), but mostly as a second/back up stage guitar with a cool style. Any of you guys using these? I know it sounds a bit stupid, but I'm kind of excited to hear what the difference might be... any comments greatly appreciated.
I've used the flatwound Cobalts, they were a nice sounding string and somewhat bright, but ended up having some sort of tarnish build up on them rendering them useless. Not sure if that was something to do with my hand chemistry and i do have sweaty hands. Not everyone seems to have this problem, but wanted to throw it out there.
I've used the cobalt rounds quite a bit and really liked them. Strong mids, and even sounding string to string. Many people complain about the rough feel, but this has not been my experience. I found them to feel quite smooth. I also did not experience any intense wear on the frets. What did them in, however, was that they did not last very long. But that may be different for you.
My strings do seem to last quite a while... Perhaps my fingers just don't sweat much? Or perhaps I just dont play as much as I should
