New to Building

Discussion in 'Effects [BG]' started by anotherbassist, Mar 13, 2004.

  1. hey
Im new to building anything electronic and I think that it would be cool to build my own pedal so i saw this one

    http://www.smallbearelec.com/Projects/TweakO/TweakO.htm

the Tweak O and i was wondering what it does and if it would work for bass because I would like to get some pedal building experience?
    thanks

  2. Im not a pro or anything but i am in the process of building a distortion pedal at the moment...to get one of those guitar effects to work for bass you need a few lower value capacitors...hopefully someone with a bit more experience can help you out

That was my first kit too. Sorry, I couldn't tell you what it does. Never finished :)

But Steve @ Smallbear's kit's are some of the best out there, they supply almost everything but the finishing supplies and the drill bits for a great price. The instructions are easy to follow and he's an email away from great advice.

  4. The Tweak-O is a fuzz/OD type effect. Good for guitar. Maybe not so good for bass.

The tremolo modulates your volume and you can control the speed (think 60's surf music). Can sound cool on bass in the right context, imo.

My recommendation for a first-time build that sounds great on bass would be a Bazz Fuss or a Buzz Box (two Bazz's in a row).

Very few components. Easy to build. Thick, fat fuzz with plenty of low end. Use 10uF caps on the input and output.

    Best...
