New to Recording

I have recently bought Cakewalk's SONAR X1 with an M-Audio ProFire 610 audio interface. I am primarily an electric bass player and want to begin using this equipment to record. I am finding myself a bit overwhelmed. I am not familiar with the entire recording process, how to best record the bass, how to edit, mix and master, plug-ins, basically, everything. Can someone recommend a learning tool ( book, dvd, etc. ) to help someone that needs to start from the very beginning? Thank you for your time.
