    Hi guys,

A while ago a bought an ABG from our own JT. It's an Ovation Celebriy 5 stringer. I liked it a lot acoustically, but not so well amplified. I had been wanting to try nylon strings, but it took me a while to change the strings to the Labella Deep Talking nylon tapewounds because I had to file the nut a litte for those thicker strings to fit (but the bridge was fine). So anyways, I finally sat down and filed the nut gaps a bit... and ...

Oh, man... It sounds so smooth now. It has really made a huge difference. I am now unsure if I like my Jazz tone (MIJ 75ri w/ flats) or my ABG tone better.

Hmm... I am going to try and see if I can record a couple of samples before I need to jam to my folks for a BBQ... More to come!

Sounds like a good change. How much do those strings cost? I was looking to try some normal LaBella strings or possibly some flats for my P-Bass. Get some sound clips up when you can!

  4. My guess is that the 2nd one is the acoustic?
I have a set of DeepTalkin' on my ABG too, and they do indeed make the bass sound better, especially for a fretless too.

LaBella nylon tapes are sweet on ABGs, aren't they? My Tacoma wears 'em, and I'm looking for a short scale set for my Applause.

Not the loudest strings, but oy! - the tone! Try 'em with a felt pick for a real delight.

    Bentem is right!

1st bass is Ovation ABG w/ Labella Deep Talking

2nd is Jazz with unknown nickle or steel flats.

They are pretty similar sounding! I don't know if its just the acoustics of my practice room, but the ABG sounds "fatter" than the Jazz with these new strings.

These are also very comfortable to play, and cheap at Carvin.

I can hardly wait to try them out in a band environment.
