I was debating waiting until I could get the pictures developed, but I wanted to share before then, so here we go...... Went to Bass Central this past Saturday to pick up a new Bartolini Pre-amp for my Ibanez 1306, and also to play with all the toys. And let me tell you, there were some toys there! I walked in and talked to Grasshopper about the pre-amp, and then Gard took over. It is really hard to say no when someone keeps putting $4000 basses in your hands and saying "Play this!" I think I spent three hours in the store playing one of everything, including Fodera, Lakland, MTD, Alembic, Tobias, Pedulla, etc. Lots of fun! However, at the end of the day, this was Happy Birthday to me, so after lots of haggling and pulling of hair, I am now the proud owner of a Lakland 55-94 Deluxe fretless and a might-as-well-be-new SWR Henry the 8x8. That Lakland through my Hartke 5000 and the Henry sounds totally awesome. I think I have found my Muuaahhhh!, to quote another thread. So, thanks to Grasshopper, Gard, Beaver, and Dirty Road Cola for all of the freedom in the store. Pictures coming soom. P.S. Unless you have an engineering degree, do not try to install a new preamp yourself. It sucks.
Dun dun dun Another one bites the dust...He-hey. Congrats on the gear. Relief from GAS is a nice feeling.
You must not have known about the "You-Have-To-Spend-All-Of-Your-Money-Here" Dust that Gard sprinkles over the basses. With him shoving all of those basses into your hands, it was just a matter of time before enough got into your bloodstream to make you buy a bass and a cabinet. It's not your fault, man. Bad Gard--BAD!
WARNING If you suffer from extremly high levels of GAS, STAY AWAY FROM BASS CENTRAL. Could be very dangerous (for your bank account, of course).
Glad you're happy with your stuff SilvermaneZ. you should've been there earlier..there was a customer looking for a bass and she wasn't too sure how it looked so Gard made me go rustle up a mirror from the bathroom so she could see how she looked with it on We aim to please at Bass Central! -Neal
I'm afraid to venture up there. The GAS would be so massive, that I might well explode. But then again. Bass Central. Man, I dunno...fear versus a life of torment.... Heck with it. I'm a glutton for torment...
SilvermaneZ - Glad you enjoyed your visit to O'town, and hope your new toys are still treating you well. You gotta super sweet bass in the Lakland, Munjibunga will attest to it, he's played it as well. If I'd not gotten the deal on the Zon Sonus I did, most likely I would have relived you of that particular case of G.A.S. in advance. I'm a bit envious of you for having it. Make sure to give me a heads up next time you're headed this way, we'll hit the Kobe again, hopefully on an "all-you-can-eat" sushi night this time!! Just don't make me eat anymore of those nasty cucumber rolls, ok? SSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Darn it Spaceflunkeee, you're gonna ruin all my sales with that kinda talk!!!! There goes YOUR TB discount.....hee hee.....
And I must say, that Zon Sonus 5/2 looked just smashing on her! Red hair, shoreline gold bass....very nice indeed. An assist on the goal goes to Neal for his tireless mirroring efforts. She was quite happy with her purchase, and it was an excellent choice, perfect color or not. Very nice bass. Very lucky girl. Very cool parents! (We should all be so lucky...)
Actually, I don't consider myself to be a salesman. I'm more of a relationship councilor, joining together bassists, basses, and amplifiers in harmony. The basses sell themselves. (And none of us work on commission).
See, you should just put mirrors at strategic locations around the store. It'd make it look bigger. I can't believe a girl's parents bought her a Zon. Of course, my folks are paying Ivy League tuition eek: ) so it's all relative.
OT, but...man, I pay for everything through the nose, myself. Lucky dogs... (Though I do get a graduation present. That'll probably be a Eden WT-800 or something...) Zon...drooollll.....
LMAO!!!!! That's too funny, I have to use that @ work!!!! Congrats on the great bass , pre-amp, bass cab, SilvermaneZ!!!! <a href="http://www.theoremnyc.cjb.net"><img width=385 height=70 src="http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1174383&a=8647027&p=41535909&Sequence=0&res=high" border=0></a>
One must use the power of the force when in BC. One must resist the urge to lose all senses, common and otherwise. One must be strong. One must call home to wife. One must check credit card balance. One must do what one must do.
Gard, We have the same birthday!....So, what do you say if you give me a Badass2 for birthday present huh?? That'll give you a good publicity.....giving the needy??
It must just be me, but I cannot see spending four hours in a store, trying one bass after another -- especially when we're talking about $4000 basses!
