Hi all, been looking for a new amp for the last couple of months and just noticed that Trace Elliot have a new line of amps (see www.trace-elliot.co.uk). When I've asked around locally I've been told Trace Elliot were dead in the water and could only be found second hand these days after folding post-gibson buyout. Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on this for me: a) does Gibson still own Trace (if so I'm not as keen to track down the new amps given the poor quality of the Trace gear post buyout)? b) anyone had a chance to hear / play through one of the new amps yet? Cheers. Text_Edifice
To answer your questions: a. Gibson does not own Trace any longer. They were bought out by Peavey earlier this year. From what I have heard Trace will start shipping amps in December. It was also said that it would be distributed only through the better bass shops in the US. We will see how well that works for them. Oh yea, BTW, Gibson era Trace was not bad equipment. If it was, why would so many covet the V8 annd the rest of the V series? b. As soon as I get the chance I guarantee I will play through one! I'm sure I will post a review as well.
Cool, thanks for that - really appreciate the information. I'll look forward to hearing your opinion and hopefully trying one out! Re Gibson era Trace gear - my mistake, just going on some user reviews I've read and word of mouth, particularly with regard to problems with some V8 heads. Must have been misinformed though - maybe it's just corporate bashing of Gibson? Anyway, thanks again for the info. Text_Edifice
Your welcome! As far as what some are saying, I think a lot of it has to do with corporate bashing. I absolutely hate Gibson and will NEVER buy a product from them but I'm not going to make up stuff to tear them down. I know there were a few problems but not more than any other manufacturer like Ampeg, SWR, or G-K.
i think the whole Gibson era is crap comes from the whole fuse holder debacle and other realiabilty issues off the shelf of certain amps. I wouldn't worry tho. the Trace gear rox. can't wait for December 1st.
