Am I dreaming? Don't wake me, if so! I just scored a 2005 US made Ampeg SVT-CL with an ATA flight case for 8 bills. The guy only wanted $750 but because he met me halfway from where he was I gave him an extra $50 in gas. It's in "good" shape with only a few minor rips in the tolex. No knobs but those are on the way from fliptops.net and will be here tomorrow. I played it once and it sounded great but it's at my tech's now for a full once over and tube check. It's gonna sound amazing on my Aguilar 4X12. Now I just need to get the SVT recovered in tweed like my Aggie cab so my rig will be as pretty as it sounds. Anyone know a company that will do a good tweed recover on the cheap?? :hyper:

Dude. Recover the cab or get a new one.

    And yeah, great score.

Tweed on an SVT ? Thats just wrong.

There are many things I like in tweed. But an svt is not one of them.

    Refinish the cab.

Don't let these people talk you out of the tweed, man....just don't.

Great score on a great amp. Tweed haters be damned.

And don't you dare strip down and recover that beautiful big-ass 412 when you could just do a little amp case in gorgeous, timeless, classy, pristine, classic, beautiful tweed.

Love tweed. Old Fender guitar amps look great in it. NOT an SVT man.

Don't strip the original headcase. Get a new one from flip tops cover it. Save original headcase. Life may ask you to resell the SVT, new owner may not be as smitten as you with tweed.

It's a black metal faceplate with black knobs and white labels.....big $&!?@#$ deal....no different than a hundred other amps.

Even the shiny fronts with blue letters aren't all that "exotic".

    Anarchist. Antichrist. Something. lol
  13. I'm with will33, it is not the Mona Lisa it's an instrument amp. Resale value is the only reason to stay with the black tolex and in that "case" use the suggestion above and get a new sturdy case from fliptops.

The thing's gonna sound like a million bucks either way.

    Purists be damned. :)

I the CL's I always thought looked like boring-ass plain black boxes that didn't look anywhere even close to as good as they sounded. They should look nice, to match their sound.

Now, if it was an old non-master volume shiny-front or something, I'd be right there with "leave it alone, warts and all, don't even recover it with the same stuff, let its age show proudly".

Somebody wants to dress up a CL, I'm all for it.

    Good point about resale^^

    That's the only reason IMO.*

*Not that big a deal. You won't sell it until you're old and decrepid anyway. :D
  16. This is a REALLY good idea.

If you're looking for a cool covering, have you considered plush red fur?

    That's awesome....especially considering who's playing it........Cropper, Dunn, or Jesus, either way. ;)
