My new Double Bass is really shiny !! - in fact too shiny & new - the varnish is just too "bling bling" for me - anyone have any suggestions as to how to make it look really "aged"?
I'm willing to be brutal - wire brush, sandpaper, cat of nine tails.. etc. but I'd love to hear from someone who has done it with relative success..
Its not an expensive bass, but sounds really good..
    All treatments considered - thanks!

  2. Ash,

While I am far from being an expert on the topic, I think the experts need more info on the nature of the finish you want to age. Is it some sort of spray paint job, or, heaven forbid, a better grade instrument with spirit varnish?

In the latter case the best would be to play it for like 30 years and it’ll be fine :) In other words, if the instrument has any considerable value, don’t. Whatever floats your vessel, but I wouldn’t do it.
