ditto. ive thought about this before and came to the same conclusion

  3. You know funky, you REALLY look like my friend Jeremy. Same hair, same everything.

Anyway I think weather report type music has gone the way of disco. I would sure buy a cd of that genre but most people want to buy Linkin Park and Sheryl Crow nowadays so bands try to make music in which ppl will buy, like Nu-metal and Emo...

well i didnt see the question as what group has the same sound or anything, just which do oyu consider highly influential and great musicians as weather report were.

Personally, I don't think so. They were kind of a one-of-a-kind thing IMO. No one really sounded like them at the time, and no one has since. I don't really think the Flecktones come close.

    IMO-
The title tune to Tribal Tech's Thick sounds very much like Weather Report.

Also, the Hasidic New Wave's brand of Klezmer often touches on a Weather Report/Bitches Brew-era Miles vibe.

yeah guys, i dont think he meant which band sounds like them. i think he meant will there be a band like them as far as their high musicianship and being so influential and "ahead of their times" i think he meant the question along those lines moreso than which band sounds the most like them. of course, i could be wrong, in which case feel free to call me stupid :p

Naw man, None Y'all are stupid!

Even as far musicianship, they are still individual and unique.

When you use one 'Bands name/artists name' to describe a precedented category (ie. 'is Dominique Di Piazza the next Jaco?', '...Avishai Cohen the next Dave Holland?') to judge from, don't you think that angled-bias and ill-stereo-types are bound to happen?

    I guess something like:

'Where Weather Report was in the 70's as fusion-jazz innovators, do you think that Bela Fleck and the Flectones are creating their 'innovative niche' to rival WP's Acheivement as their place in modern fusion today?' Would be another way to phrase it.

    But...

"...weather report type band..." might be a little misleading to me... But I was born in 1973, what do I know.:D

'Guess you could call me a 'tween', cause the Flectones would still be considered in my generation... I was 5 when WP was big and I started playing bass the December after Jaco died... Go figure.

  12. 2 things would have to happen. 1st of all there would have to be a group of musicians that wanted to produce "weather report type music" and the music listening, buying, downloading public would have to be of the mind set to appriciate it. This has as much a chance of happening as anything else.:meh: I'll shut up now...
