While checking out a report on a writing session by "Jelly Jam," a side project consisting of Ty Tabor (King's X,) John Myung (Dream Theater,) and Rod Morgenstein (The Dregs, Jazz is Dead,) I noticed in the photos that Myung was using a modified version of his Yamaha signature bass. It appears that the space where the original pickups rest have been filled in and replaced by a single soapbar in the traditional Stingray position. The controls have also been changed - it's now sporting 3 pots (one looks to be stacked), and a mini-toggle. It's seems recording parts of "6DoIT" with a 'ray has rubbed off...

Since dealers have been lowering their prices on RBXJM6's for a while, could this signal a new version of the bass in the near future?

  2. The bass he used on Live Scenes from NY is somewhat different too, he's taken off the original pickups and replaced them with somethin different

Obviously the guy just aint happy with his own signature bass, lol

No, no Myung isn´t unhappy with his RBX6JM. He´s got the red, unmodified one ! I think he simply persues an other sound with his new recordings, so he got into that MM-Style thing.
