Well I took the plunge and closed out 2014 by getting my first double bass. I've been playing a Fender electric but always wanted to learn the upright. The information on TalkBass has been most helpful. Picked up a used Shen SB100 with Spirocore strings from JD Judd in Williamsport, PA. Great people to deal with... Now the fun begins. Hope "an old dog can learn new tricks"! Bob Indiana, PA
Congrats, Bob (From Jimmy Stewart's hometown)! She looks good. Shens will give you a lot of bang for the buck. Wish you all the best as you begin a new musical journey in 2015--keep after it!
Thanks Lee...if you ever get up this way the Jimmy Stewart Museum is worth a stop. Michael your suggestion is well taken. I have an instructor through our local university... Looking forward to a new challenge. Bob Indiana, PA
Actually, I just drove through Indiana, PA a little over a year ago. I didn't remember seeing the museum or signs for it, though. I'll have to keep that in mind for next time. "Mary...Mary...are you real?!?" Glad you've found yourself a good instructor. - Lee
End pin out...what's an end pin? Yes lots to think about. Does look a little short doesn't it. This picture was just an after thought as I headed out the door. I'm sure my instructor will drill end pin, left hand, right hand into my head. Thanks for the encouragement! Bob Indiana, PA
The end pin is that slidey thing in the bottom of your bass, you want to find the optimum height for your build. Keeping it all the way in, as you have it in the photo, is too low for you.
